It gives me great pleasure to introduce the Association of International Schools’ Educators in Nigeria (AISEN).

AISEN was founded in 2004 by a small group of principals to share their experience and support the development of international education in Nigeria. Over the past 15 years, AISEN has grown to become an organisation of almost one hundred schools across Nigeria, committed to delivering high-quality international education.

An international education is not solely about academic curricula but also allowing children to participate in high-quality co-curricular activities including sporting programmes and a range of creative and cultural activities. An international education also develops key 21st-century skills through debate, public speaking and technology programmes. AISEN provides a forum for member schools to achieve this in a safe and structured environment.

Providing exciting and fun activities for students is a core value of AISEN. These include football, basketball, and volleyball competitions between schools. Art, dance and music competitions are held annually as well as the AISEN National Debate Competition which attracts schools from as far afield as Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. These programmes also allow students to network with children from other AISEN schools, building friendships that can last a lifetime.

To ensure that schools are able to deliver high-quality international education, AISEN organises some of the largest teacher training programmes in Nigeria. These take place each term and topics range from the use of technology in the classroom, developing core skills in students and understanding emotional intelligence. They include breakout sessions for teachers of all age groups, from early years through to the sixth form. They also provide a forum for teachers to share their experience and develop a learning community.

Schools wishing to join AISEN undergo a rigorous accreditation process overseen by the Quality and Professional Standards group. This group is made up of experienced international school principals who evaluate a school’s preparedness to deliver high-quality international education and support and guide new schools.

AISEN also believes that education must also have an impact beyond the school, hence all AISEN schools commit to delivering projects that support the development of their local community. These projects are led and developed by students, helping them to learn key management and entrepreneurial skills.

The experience and expertise of AISEN members ensure that AISEN is regularly invited to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Education at the state and federal level to provide input into the development of education policies. The AISEN Influence Group conducts research on developments in education internationally, sharing best practice within AISEN and with external partners. They also host regular seminars and lectures with national and international thought leaders, which are open to all educators, helping to raise the standard of education across Nigeria.

If you are currently considering which school would be best for your child, membership of AISEN should be a factor and if you are the parent of a child who attends an AISEN school, I hope this will help you understand more fully how AISEN supports schools to ensure that children receive a complete international education.
